Overview Of Surah Ash Shams
Just as the sun and the moon, day and night, earth and sky are different from each other and are contradictory in their effects and results, so too are good and evil different from each other and are contradictory in their effects and results. They are neither the same in appearance nor can they be the same in results.
After giving man his body, intellect and mind, Allah Almighty did not leave him unaware of the world, but through natural inspiration, He instilled in his subconscious the distinction between good and evil, right and wrong.
Man’s future depends on recognizing these differences, developing good qualities and suppressing the evil tendencies of the soul. If he inclines towards good and frees himself from evil tendencies, he will achieve eternal success, and if, on the contrary, he suppresses good qualities and promotes evil, he will face disappointment and failure.
The Example Of Thamud
The example of Thamud mentions that Hazrat Salih (peace be upon him) was sent to this nation, but they were so rebellious that they rejected him, being overcome by their evil deeds. And when he presented to them the miracle of the she-camel, which was demanded of them, the most wretched among them slaughtered it according to the will and desire of the people. Thus, the entire tribe came under the wrath of Allah.
